Year One Events

Fall Fondue

Kicked off the year with a freshman exclusive chocolate fondue extravaganza! Not only did we have yummy fondue (made vegan and kosher friendly by our wonderful board) flowing from our newly bought array of chocolate fountains, but refreshing fruits, snacks, and drinks were prepared for an ultimate pairing: strawberries, apples, bananas, marshmallows, rice krispies, and more! More than two-hundred and fifty students joined us as we provided food services, which included extra servings of apple cider and chocolate strawberries by the cup-full, along with a wonderful live-performance provided by our guest performer, Dylan. Easily the star of the show, Dylan serenaded all our attendees with his top-notch guitar-playing skills. Definitely an amazing first event to remember!

Our COO, Alex Lim, serving (chocolate) throughout the event!

Cuisine of College Hill

Our treasurer, Soni Chawla, and CCBestie, Nick, serving (pizza)!

Worried that food-fun events would end after Fall Fondue? Nope! Next up we had our annual food festival comprised of nearly a dozen student-loved restaurants across Thayer Street and more in Sayles Hall. Our many generous donors include (deep breaths): Kabob and Curry, Chinatown, Vivi Bubble Tea, Eastside Pockets, Insomnia Cookies, Andrea’s, La Creperie, MALA Noodles, Aroma Joe’s, Like No Udder, and the Flatbread Company! In total, we had nearly a thousand delicious and mouthwatering food samples to serve the two hundred or so attendees of the freshman class. There were so many hungry mouths that no food was left over by the end of the event! Cheers to many more food festivals and remember to always support the countless small businesses/restaurants around Providence!

Cocoa ‘N Capsule

Hype team, Bryson Boone and Alex Lim, eating up (the cards)!

Perhaps what will be our most memorable event in a few years: our letter writing and time capsule event! Here, we gave a space in Leung for our freshman class to write letters for their future senior selves. All letters that we collect now in 2023 will be stored and safeguarded in CCB storage for the next four years before being returned to their patient and rightful owners in 2027. Alongside our class’ capsule creations, all-you-can-drink hot cocoa was also provided at no cost, creating a warm environment for all of our future-forward writers. For fun, we had a wide array of available stationary, goodie bags, and arts & crafts activities on the side for attendees as well. We’ll see you again in 2027!

Ice Skating

President, Ava Stamatakis, and PR, Irene Kim, serving (hot cocoa)!

The snowy season can mean only one thing…it’s time for our annual Ice Skating event! Partnered with our CCBesties in the sophomore class of ‘26, we set up the super cool event at The Providence Rink of the BankNewport City Center. Attendees were given free tickets to the ice, which was incredibly, well, cool! Drinks, snacks, and heat packs were also provided for our underclassmen including coffee, hot chocolate, and Trader Joe goodies. Overall, while there were many (and I mean many) trips and falls, the underclassmen had an amazing time skating around. We look forward to more ice skating seasons ahead!

Coffee House

Soni, Irene, and Katie singing about how they miss Bryson!

This ain’t your average coffee house experience…while, yes, coffee, hot chocolate, pastries, donuts, and galore were all provided at our amazing coffee house event in the Underground, the main star (or should I say stars) of our event was the long list of live performances made up of your very own first year class! Dare I say, the most talented of talented singers and musicians were invited to perform in the spotlight, some singing old classics and others with their own creative originals, in front of one hundred and fifty or so individuals in the audience. Average people (me) were totally blown away (me, I was totally blown away) by the overwhelming absolute talent of our BrownU students!

Plant Palooza

President Ava and VP Bryson Boone eating up (the paint)!

Ahem, baby plant adoption center…OPEN! Following the wishes of many of our green-fingered friends and artistic community at BrownU, we prepared hundreds of young succulents, canvases, and more for two-hundred or so of our first years to paint. We welcomed our attendees to make use of their many creative talents to make masterful works of art with their provided materials and, as always, we were blown away by the amazing work of our freshman class! So many amazing artists and young talents showed up! RISD would be jealous (shh don’t tell them I said that). May all of our young succulent adopters take good care of their new plants and enjoy their new paintings.

Game Night

VP Bryson and PR Irene eating up (the Minute-to-Win-It games)!

Who doesn’t need a night to sit back and relax with the rest of the class? Mission accomplished with our exciting, yet chill, GAME NIGHT! Littered around the room were classic board and card games, including but not excluding, Cards Against Humanity, Uno, and Bingo. Yu-Gi-Oh and Mahjong were even more welcomed additions to our event, as provided by the Brown Mahjong and Yu-Gi-Bruno Clubs. Additionally, video games such as Super Smash Bros Ultimate were projected on the walls, courtesy of the Brown ESports Club. To stir the competitive nature of our first-year peers, we also held dozens of Minute-to-Win-It games and Kahoot trivias! Winners of these games were provided raffle tickets for a chance to win a Birb (thanks Birbs@Brown), a large clown squishmallow, or an Owala. Thanks for coming, and see you next time, ‘27!
